Groups around the world, and in your own backyard, have made the reduction and elimination of discrimination and stigma a priority. Initiatives aimed at effecting change and educating the public help eliminate the misperceptions and biases that keeps people with mental illnesses from living, working, and participating in the community.

One method of countering discrimination and stigma is to replace misinformation with new understanding and knowledge. This process takes time and repeated effort. Click on one of the links below to read about campaigns and programs that are reducing stigma and discrimination at the local, State, National, and international levels. Use these informational spotlights to generate ideas about reducing stigma and discrimination in your own community.
